History of Rayadurga fort

According to the history, Junga Nayaka, Rayadurgam Fort was built by a chieftain of Vijay nagaram kings. The Battle between Rama Rayalu the son in law of King Sri Krishna Deva Raya and Deccan Sultanates of Talikota was a bitter battle fought. Later Koneti Nayaka drove out the Muslim force. Venkatapathi Nayaka became the strength of the fort to a greater extent Later Tipu Sultan conquered the fort and it was annexed to the province of Gooty. There are several layers inner forts that made the access difficult inside the Rayadurgam. During the reign of the rulers of the Vijayanagar Empire. The fort played a significant role. The Rayadurgam Fort is one of the important and attractive tourist destinations in Rayadurgam town. Ryadurgam fort is beautiful and also strong till today. On the fort, there is a temple built wonderfully which is dedicated to Lord Ganesha called as Lord Dashabhuja Ganapathi. The idol of a Dashabhuja Ganesha had been structured from a single 4m high monolithic stone. In the middle of the fort hill, there are four caves with few amazing carvings. There are other temples that are dedicated to Lord Hanuman, Venugopala, Ellamma, Prasanna Venkateswara, Jambukeswara, Veerabhadra and Kanyakaparameswari.
Kalyanadurga Fort, Akkamma Konda and Kota konda are some of the famous tourist destinations near the fort.

At a distance of 2 km from Bus Stand of Rayadurgam, 99 km from Anantapur, 53 km from Bellary, 95 km from Guntakal, 449 km from Hyderabad, 245 km from Kurnool, 571 km from Vijayawada and 265 km from Bangalore.
Bellary airport is the nearest airport to Rayadurg, Bellary which is 50 KM away from Rayadurg. There is a railway station in Rayadurg, trains are available to all major locations are available, but not regularly. Normally trains from Rayadurg run to the cities of Bangalore,

Hyderabad, and Vijayawada and to other cities and towns up north. Buses and Auto rickshaws
and buses are available for inner city travel. There are Number of busses runned by APSRTC from major cities to here. Rayadurgam APSRTC Bus Station, Kalyandurgam APSRTC Bus Station, Donamalai APSRTC Bus Station are nearby by Bus Stations to Rayadurg
